About us

Hi, I'm Liz and my husband Quentin.

We're both retired. I trained as an artist and was an air hostess, where I met my husband on a trip to India. My husband, who is Irish, was a ship's captain on long-haul and fast ferries and worked on passenger ships with the B.I. Company in India. We have a son who lives near Paris. He has a French wife and a son. I was born in the Midlands, in England, and discovering this wonderful villa was pure magic. The climate is really exceptional and we can now live a full life with lots of sunny days. We love this part of the world and love sharing its beauty with our visitors. We've made many wonderful friends who return year after year. Come and enjoy the wonderful healthy Mediterranean diet with fresh local produce in all the markets.

Savour delicious home-cooked dishes made by generations of grandmothers. You'll find tiny restaurants tucked away on mountainsides where you can enjoy wonderful dishes such as wild boar with ravioli, local cheeses and charcuterie. It's so much better than what you'll find in the touristy coastal areas. As the region borders Italy, the menus are heavily influenced by that country.

If you like to ski, you can drive to the Hautes-Alpes and, in no time at all, hit the local slopes. Interesting mountain resorts await you. You can also hire equipment. Water sports enthusiasts are spoilt for choice. You can hire a sailboat or canoe on site. We have enjoyed our own sailboat for years and have spent many weeks exploring the coasts of the Côte d'Azur and Liguria. A day on the water is fascinating and you can escape the summer crowds. The nearby islands are beautiful and well worth a visit. All this can be done in a day and directly from Le Contadour.
We'll be happy to advise you. In the meantime.Come and see us here at Gattieres.

Why did you choose this accommodation?

We chose to live in France and fell in love with this beautiful villa at first sight! It is unique in that it is very private, surrounded by beautiful terraces with olive, lemon and orange trees, yet on the doorstep of Nice and all the main attractions of the Côte d'Azur. It is centrally located to all major towns, motorway and airport. The Préalpes National Park starts just one kilometre away. We love being able to walk around the village and share a coffee and croissant with our new French friends. Here at Le Contadour, we are so spoilt to be living under the beautiful blue skies of the Mediterranean. We've never regretted our move. You too can be part of it.
